In The New Garden, there are no fewer than 240 different types of plant. In addition to the vegetation already growing here, ecological gardener Hans Engelbrecht and artist and designer Frank Bruggeman have introduced new varieties. For the planting of The New Garden, the designers have chosen a mix of native species, including willow, elderberry and hawthorn, and urban exotics such as Himalayan balsam, Japanese knotweed, ground elder and tree of heaven. In and along the water grow common reeds, bulrushes and yellow irises, among other plants. The different types are marked on a map.
